Mona P. Tan, FRCS (Ed)

Breast Surgical Oncology, MammoCare, Singapore

After having completed her formal training in General Surgery, Dr Tan was led to do sub-specialty training in breast surgery, which she has pursued since 1997. Her particular interest is in breast conservation treatment, which she believes fulfils the principle of minimally effective therapy providing favourable survival outcomes for breast cancer. To this end, she has conceived a system of segment-resection techniques which allow minimalist surgical resection of tumours to achieve oncologically adequate margins with optimal cosmesis in a wide range of patients. Her current interest is in the integration of anatomy, radiology, pathology and surgery to achieve best outcomes for multifocal and multicentric breast cancer, a subject which she sees as the next frontier for breast cancer surgery.
