Yuko Kijima, MD, PhD

Dr. Yuko Kijima started residency at Kagoshima University, 1st department of Surgery just after graduation from Kagoshima University, Faculty of Medicine, in 1993. After general training for surgeons, Dr. Kijima started researches as graduate student of Kagoshima University graduate school of medical sciences. During four years, she was engaged in the study for a relationship between Epstein-Barr virus and epithelial neoplasia, especially in gastric cancer.
From 2001 to 2003 she was trained at Kagoshima University hospital as a general surgeon. In 2003, she studied in St. Marianna University (Kanagawa Prefecture) to learn bases and technical procedure of plastic surgery, where Dr. Kijima learnt immediate and delayed, autologous and implant-based reconstruction techniques. Those experiences have influenced her following life as a surgeon.
In 2004 Dr. Kijima returned to Kagoshima University as an assistant professor of 1st department of Surgery and worked as a breast surgeon. She wrote some research papers about diagnosis, pathology, chemotherapy, and surgical technique such as oncoplastic breast surgery until now. Dr. Kijima usually helps her colleagues to establish their research papers.
